My history in five large steps

photo>I appreciate that you want to know everything, so let me start at the beginning. I was born in 1972 in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands. My mother (she doesn't know she's on the web, she not that kind of girl) tells me that I was a lively baby so she resorted to tricks like this to keep me still for the photo. Note the price of washing powder in those days.

photo>I started my studies at the University of Groningen in september 1991. I studied both Theoretical Physics and Mathematics for a year, then continued with Theoretical Physics only. I graduaded in november 1996.

I was a PhD student at the University of Utrecht from 1997 to 2001. I did theoretical research in the field of Statistical Physics. Presently I work as a methods specialist at Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

photo>Enjoying nature is central to my holidays. I have been walking in the Pyrenees, the Alps and, well, nearly all European mountain ranges by now. I have also been to Alaska, Madagascar, Mexico, and the Northwest of the USA. Still on my list are Hawaii, Norway and Canada.

photo>I have a lovely girlfriend called Renske. She works at TNT Post. She makes sure all those letters and packages arive in time.

photo>In my free time I do al lot of training. Acrobatical Rock and Roll is what I do. This action shot was taken at an international exchange weekend in Eindhoven, organised by the Acrobatische Dans Sport Bond Nederland (ADSBN).
